Househelps

This morning as we drove to work, we tuned into a radio station that had an interesting discussion...yeah you guessed it, it was on househelps. The background was that there is a lady who has helped develop a curriculum for domestic workers in Kenya and the emphasis is on respecting oneself, good grooming, respecting the job one is doing etc. She was encouraging all employers to enrol their domestic workers for the curriculum but many were hesitant stating that they would invest much in the househelps then after a few weeks/days the girls would leave..but she said if all homes trained the domestic workers then whenever they left, then you would receive one who is trained as everyone has played their role.

The morning show had 2 male presenters, and two ladies and what caused a stir was that the men asked one lady.." whether she would employ a househelp who was prettier than her? "Would you employ one who's esteem is high and dresses well if you were married" . The lady said she would employ a househelp who is beautiful and well groomed and that it was an advantage to her because she would be able to receive her visitors well and manage the home better and the men  burst out laughing and said she would be inviting trouble in her own home.,They went ahead  to say that her husband would start working from home andif she was not careful she would be replaced by the girl. The ladies in studio tried to tell the men that they should have self control but the men argued that no matter the self control they had the lady would be mistakenly bringing temptation into her house.

Secondly the guys asked 'if the lady of the house found out that there was an affair between her hubby and househelp why does she blame the girl and not her husband and end up firing the housegirl". Unfortunately I don't know how the concluded the topic but that was good food for thought..

I would really be keen to hear your opinion on the 2 questions..'As a lady would you employ a househelp who is more beautiful or well groomed than you? Why are housegirls blamed for having an affair with the man of the house? We are women and here in Kenya for us career women , we are recruiting girls , infact I have a new one in my house, transitioning from one who had stayed for 2 years to this one is not easy.Kindly let me hear from you ladies...

I think it is so sad that rather than feel a sense of shame, men and especially African men brag about adultery. Even more tragic is a society where women are shunned if they choose to leave a man who is commiting adultery and her only option is to fight with the "other" woman rather than put her foot down and communicate to the man she made vows with that she deserves better than a man who cannot be bothered to respect her enough to control his impulses.

I think our society really needs prayers for men to rise up and be real men and not take pride in immoral behavior.

Blessings.
I totally agree that we need to pray for men to rise up and be real men and not take pride in immoral behaviour. I also think that women need to be prayed for to know their place in God and in marriage. They deserve the best yet even in weddings, the brides are adviced by other women to be quiet about issues or 'vumilia'/persevere in marriage and hence why think they accept it and vent out at the other woman.

Sly.. I think such questions create more fear in women than faith, they just want to tear down the role of the woman as a home-maker. And instead of dealing with the core issues, we like to throw blames on women and question their self esteem while we should be addressing the moral question of men!so can we instead ask the men, if they would sleep with a house help just because she is prettier than the wife? That way...we deal with the leadership!
What more can I add gal? You guys have hit the nail on the head.

Unconditional love

As I went home last yesterday, I heard the song 'In harms way'  by BeBe Winans, Rhett Lawrence, Margaret Bell-Byars. When listening to music, I want to know the lyrics, what the song is communicating and how it applies in my life. This song reminds me of God's unconditional love, even when I do not deserve it, even when I have given up , even when he knows all He knows about me, he doesn't let go of me. That is just amazing. Undying love you've given to me Seen in me things I would never have seen I don't understand why you care so much, it's all a mystery Time and time again I ask myself What have I done to deserve such wealth The price you paid, I could never repay your generosity Chorus: In wanting to save me In order to save the day Because of love you placed yourself In harm's way It's truly beyond me Left without a word to say What kind of love would place itself In harm's way? What kind of love would place itself In harm

My Journey with Caleb's Family

A friend requested me to share my story on the journey we walked with Caleb's family. So below is a very long blog on that over 1 month. Am not sure what is in store for us ahead but this far it has been God. After our experience with Atrial Septal Defect(ASD) through our daughter Samara, I felt within me a call to look for people to partner with regarding kids with heart issues. So In January this year, I checked the net and bumped into a local NGO. The organization basically deals with kids with heart defects from poor families. I thought it was a noble call and contacted the organization. They were fast to respond and I visited them alone and over the weekend on a Saturday with my family. On the Saturday we went, we met Caleb and his parents. This was end of January and they were discussing with the founder of the organization about how to raise airfare for them to travel to India, first week of February. I held Caleb briefly in my arms and his mum kept saying one day her

Atrial Septal Defect

Atrial septal defect (ASD), is a heart condition that can affect kids. Normal Heart Function To understand an ASD, it helps to know how the heart works. The heart has four chambers. The lower chambers of the heart are called the ventricles: a left ventricle and a right ventricle. The upper chambers are the atria and there are two— a left atrium and a right atrium. You may already know that your heart is a muscle that pumps blood throughout your body. In a person without a heart defect, blue blood that's low in oxygen flows first to the right atrium, then to the right ventricle, and is then pumped to the lungs to receive oxygen. The red oxygen-rich blood then returns to the left atrium, flows from there into the left ventricle, and heads out to the body through the aorta, a large blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the smaller blood vessels in the body. Between the right and left atria is a wall called the septum that
