Good News Are Always Welcome

Dear Sylvia, Greetings!! We are glad to inform you that patient is shifted to ward yesterday night.  I have discussed it with Doctor. As per him: This patient is not fit for any other surgery now. He would be admitted for another week in hospital under observation. Then probably be fit to fly. We shall keep on updating you about child time to time. Samara's first school trip

Do you remember when you had your first school trip? I must have been was when I was 12 or 13 years. Well things have changed because our daughter Samara had a school trip yesterday to Sharks Place (on Kiambu Road) and by the look of things she had a lovely time . This morning she amazed me when she took her school bag and told me teacher's phone is in her bag. I thought she was explaining that the teacher had put her mobile in her phone yesterday while going for school trip but no..Samara actually opened her side pocket and removed a very lovely mobile phone. It was just amazing that at 2 years 2 months she understands what she is saying and taught me to listen to her more keenly now.

More Good News

Am so excited and know that God truly exists and He is faithful. This morning Nicolleta said Caleb is much better, she expressed milk and he drank 40ml orally which was a great milestone for him. Before leaving Kenya, Caleb was taking 10ml of milk . The doctors will be doing routine blood tests on him and will realise him to the ward from the ICU later today. That is amazing news given that they had said he may stay in ICU for more than 2 weeks. So we are grateful God. Indeed it is God who has brought us this far and we thank you all for standing with us. Blessings Sylvia

Good News

Some good news today, Caleb is much better than he was yesterday. Still in ICU but trying to breath on his own. His mum sounded quite excited and we thank God.

Quick Update

Just talked with Nicoletta(Caleb's mum). She was from ICU and said she felt abit down as she found Caleb crying alot . He had been removed the oxygen tube so that he can breath on his own but he seemed to be struggling. The doctor assured her that they were observing and if need be they would return the oxygen tube. He is still in ICU and depends on how quick he recovers then he would be transferred to the ward then finally discharge. I am looking forward to that. So keep praying for his mum, dad and family&friends. We have seen God's faithfulness and do not want to tire at this point. Sylvia

Post Ballooning Procedure

Hey , thank you for following up on Caleb. Talked to Caleb's mum this morning and she said Caleb was doing greta, he was ok, still on oxygen but they were going to remove it to see whether he can breath well on his own. This is normal after such procedures, reminds me so much of Samara post surgery. Sincerely speaking I would love to hear that Caleb is fully well and ready to come home. Its been such a battle for the last many weeks and its starting to take a toll on me. The mum mentioned in passing that he may need surgery but doctors will confirm this to us tomorrow. The questions running through  my mind are after how long will he need surgery and if soon, then we need to look for monies. We have requested the hospital to give us a quotation and I will keep you posted. Kindly pray for renewed strength, am feeling unwell with tonsils and maybe thats where my emotions of feeling overwhelmed are coming from. Once again thank you for standing with us and I will keep you very muc

Finally Caleb receives treatment that was long overdue

The name Caleb in Hebrew means 'faithful' which in Arabic it means 'brave, bold'. What better way can we describe Caleb Maina Gachahi than by his name. This boy has only known discomfort since birth yet God has preserved him this far. This morning of 26th March 2012, Caleb underwent not a surgery but a procedure called balloon angioplasty of coarctation of aortic valve , I can't explain it well but this  link http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/disorders/congenital/coarctation_of_the_aorta.aspx http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/disorders/congenital/coarctation_of_the_aorta.aspx can explain it in lay man's terms. Surgeon had said surgery was too risky for Caleb as he is only 3.4kgs and therefore opted for this procedure as of now.  Caleb went through the procedure well and bravely and is still unconscious but his body is responding well. The doctors say he needs some blood because his blood count is low but otherwise he is doing well. Nicoletta his mum is

Caleb Maina's Updates

Let us start by saying God is good. It has been tough but God has just carried us through all the challenges that have come our way. After staying at Fortis Hospitals Bangalore for 11 days with little treatment, no surgery and a bill accumlating to about USD 2,400 Caleb and mum were transferred to Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals yesterday the 23rd of March 2012. On arrival he was rushed to ICU because he had an infection and his fever was very high, fortunately today he is much better and with no fever. Doctors there have agreed to do surgery as we look for the monies and total cost maybe about USD 9,000.She was told by the doctors that Caleb may need more than one heart surgery and each will depend on how he reacts to the other. They say surgery maybe done in the course of next week. We continue to thank you our friends for standing with us both financially and even praying with us. When I talked to Caleb's mum she said she was unable to pray but I told her we are standing in t

Word of Encouragement

Here is your word for today: Verse:            Psalm 18:18 On the day when I faced disaster, they confronted me, but the Lord came to my defense. - We all face times or seasons of difficulty. - At these times, not everyone has sympathy for what we are facing. - But God never abandons or drops us. - He will uphold you and keep you from falling. PRAYER:  Lord, You are my defense. You are my deliverer. You are my support. I look to You. Amen.

Caleb's Update

We continue to thank God that people are responding to our medical plea for Caleb. We have raised about Kshs 40,000 extra from yesterday and that in itself is a miracle. This morning Caleb's dad called me in distress that the monies seem to take too long to come and the boy has not been operated on yet hospital bill is going higher. He suggested that we look for another affordable hospital to transfer his family. As a well wisher, I told him that he has all the right to make decisions on his family and we shall stand by the decision they make. I continue to ask you to pray for the right decision regarding Caleb to be made. There are alot of emotions involved and we also continue to pray for wisdom and patience as we continue to seek funds to see Caleb get the best medical care he so much deserves. He has been very patient and my prayer is that the best decision shall be reached for his. sake. Thank you for standing with us and sharing Caleb's story with your friends, we a

Caleb Maina-1 week later

Today marks one week since Caleb and his mum arrived at Fortis Hospitals Bangalore. Ideally he should have undergone the surgery and recovering by now but that is not the case. We have been in touch  with the mum and Caleb has been doing fine. Nicoletta(Caleb’s mum) is also trying her best to talk to doctors, accounts office and anyone who can listen to allow the surgery to be done. They say she is very comical yet it is the cry and desperation of a mother. I was with Caleb’s dad  Peter yesterday and he is really trying all he can to see his son get the surgery that he so much requires. He is also very grateful to all those friends who have helped his family in one way or another. We have been able to raise about Kshs 115,000 and we are making great strides towards the target Kshs 800,000. We are hoping that the hospital shall see the effort being put by the family and accept to bend its rule on the 80% deposit. Total bill is about Kshs 1,147,500. Caleb and mum had travelled wit

Caleb Maina-Update

Hi, Welcome if you joining us now. Caleb Maina is very special to us and feel free to read the earlier posts about him and his family. Caleb and his mum are at Fortis Hospitals Banglore since Tuesday last week. Examinations have been done and the surgeru is yet to be done because of the cash constraint. The hsopital has stated clearly that unless 80% of the total USD 13,500 is deposited into their account then the surgery can not be done. We have great faith that God will open a door for us and that surgery shall be done this week. We need to raise at least Kshs 800,000 . So far we have raised about Kshs 94,000 and we are thankful to all that have supported us. If you have friends whome you can share Caleb's story kindly do so, if any organisation/individuals comes to mind whom you think we can approach kindly let us know. My contact details are Sylvia-0722 840375 Email:sylviawambui@gmail.com Thanks guys and lets keep praying .

Caleb Maina-Update

I would like to say thank you to all who have been praying with us and also supporting financially towards Caleb's surgery and medical bill. Yesterday Caleb had a CT Scan and at some point think got unconscious, due to lack of oxygen and he had to be rushed to the ICU. The mum called me in a panic and requested that we pray for him and later on we spoke he was ok. The scan show narrowing of the aorta..Nicoletta says the doctor said his is 4 and it should be about 11-12..as you will notice I need to do more research on this to understand. Good news was that his valve is not that bad and surgery maybe to widened the aorta and all else will be ok. We have been able to raise and send USD 300. Seems little but its alot in our eyes and we apprecaite all that have given us. The mum has gone with a cheque of 150,000 rupies given by a well wisher which amounts to USD 3,500. The hospital has requested that we raise at least USD 10,000 before they can do the surgery. Prayer Point Kindl

Caleb Maina-Part 4

Celebrate with us guys, Caleb Maina and his mum travelled to Fortis Banglore  yesterday Monday 12th March 2012.  We spoke this morning and they have arrived safely at the hospital and are awaiting to see the doctor. Caleb was very calm in the plane and we really thank God for that favour and the mum is very grateful. You may be wondering why I have mentioned he is in Fortis yet he was to go to Apollos but over the weekend the doctor at Apollos reviewed the medical report and due to the delicate nature of the surgery he advised that the hospital be changed to one that could handle Caleb's case. Kindly read more about Shone's Complex on  http://www.pted.org/?id=shones1 . We are trusting God for 2 things nows. Firstly is for a successful surgery for Caleb and we will inform you on the date of the surgery for you all to pray for him. Secondly the total medical bill is USD 13,500 or Kshs 1,147,500. We have been able to pay a deposit of Kshs 300,000 and therefore deficit is Kshs

Caleb Maina-3

I am not sure why God allowed me to meet this boy and once again we have met. He has three heart defects and is now 4months old and weighs only 3.7kgs. He needs an urgent heart surgery and its been an uphill task to get him an affordable hospital package. Finally, God has come through and Apollos Hospital Banglore has accepted to do surgery at USD  4,500 and a well wisher has paid Kshs 300,000 and deficit now is Kshs 100,000. The air ticket has been paid and that is all they need.   The parents had managed to raise some cash from friends but unfortunately Caleb fell sick on Tuesday with fever of 40 and has been admitted since then at Nairobi Women's Adams Branch 2nd floor and therefore their little savings have all been poured towards that. As we speak Caleb is much better but was severely dehydrated and is still in hospital even as we trust that he will travel with the mum this Monday 12th March to India.  Picture of Caleb trying to breastfeed as he is given water via IV-9th M

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

I know I have been so silent that week, but it just happened to be so busy..We got a another new househelp on Sunday and released the other who had stayed for only 1 week. The new one is God sent I tell you, she has been a great help to me this week now that my beloved had to travel the whole week. I like her because she is proactive and loves Samara though baby gal is playing hard to get. Talking of Samara she was on midterm on Monday and Tuesday and resumed on Wednesday. By then she was already missing and demanding to wear her school shoes , she couldn't wait to get back. As for work, we have been busy delivering& assembling beds. Yesterday we had gone to Athi river and the client was so particular that I had to stay till the end to ensure she was happy. By the time we got back, the it was headed to 2p.m. and I had to go pick baby gal. Being in 8th week of pregnancy, after standing all morning, I was quite fatigued and couldn't get myself back to the office. But back t
